The Panther softball team took a road trip to the University of Notre Dame to take on the Bears of Saint Joseph and came away with the victory 12-8.
Watervliet was aggressive at the plate and scored three runs in the top of the first. Lead off hitter Sabrina Klimkiewicz lead the game off with a double. Second hitter Mikalah Clay was hit by the pitch to reach first base. Taylor Shafer reached base on a fielders choice. Next up was Ariana Rowe who hit a triple to drive in two runs. The Panthers were up 3-0. St Joe scored four in the bottom of the inning to take the lead 4-3. The top of the second, the Panthers scored two more times with Celina Klimkiewicz hitting a single, Sabrina Klimkiewicz reaching on with a base on balls. Mikalah Clay hit a double to drive the two runs for the inning. Panthers back on top 5-4. St Joe took advantage with the wind reaching on base from Panthers defense miscues. St Joe scored four more times in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead 8-5. The Panthers offense was not done as they kept pounding the ball and making big hits with runners in scoring position. Kara Liles hit a big three run Home Run to blow the game wide open. Madayln Hutchins came up clutch as she hit a triple to drive in one runs. Hutchins also hit a single. Brenna Langston came in to pitch hit and reached base by getting hit by the ball. Watervliet’s pitchers (Klimkiewicz, Liles, Rowe) did a nice job as they only walked one batter.
