There was plenty of hardware brought home today, as the Watervliet wrestling team traveled to Climax-Scotts High School to participate in the Jim Wade Family Classic individual tournament. In individual tournaments each grappler is put into a bracket based on their weight class, and nine Panthers earned their way into the final round.
Javier Gutierrez and Parker Lanning were both victorious in their final round matches, each pinning their opponent and taking 5th place. Santiago Wilkinson and Jim Kolosowsky both earned 4th place medals in their respective brackets, while Trever Pelton, Dominick Morrison, Alex Isbrecht, Isaiah Yazel, and Don Smith all finished 2nd.
Team points are tracked at individual tournaments, and Watervliet earned 158.5 points today. That put them in 2nd place out of 13 teams, and gave them a team trophy to bring home. The team will hit the mats again on Wednesday, January 8th, at Lawton High School.
