What a night for the Panthers. The Panthers 1st ever district win tonight in Buchanan in the opening round of District 33. The boys started strong and finished the game by halftime with a convincing 8-0 win over the Bucks from Buchanan.
On an absolute beautiful night for soccer, although a bit windy, the boys scored early and often on their way to victory.
Last night in our final practice in preparation for districts, we instituted a new offensive corner kick strategy and it immediately paid dividends. In the 3rd minute, Abel Villarreal placed a perfect corner kick in the middle of the 18 and Andrew Chisek headed it in for the early lead. It was a magnificent play that started the boys off and running.
Less than 1 minute later, Brennan Bornas put in a nice cross feed from Nathan Isbrecht for a 2-0 lead and they never looked back. Brennan scored again in the 5th minute on another assist from Nathan and then in the 9th minute Abel netted his goal off a feed from Brady Bornas. Nine minutes in and the Panthers had a 4-0 lead.
After that, Brady netted 3 goals and Nathan added one. Bryan Perez had three beautiful assists to set up 3 of the goals while Erick Perez added an assist as well. By the 28th minute it was 8-0 and all that was left was to play out the half and the game would end. That is exactly what the boys did.
Looking forward to our semifinal game next Tuesday Evening at home against #1 seed South Haven. If you all remember, we lost to SH last year in the districts 1-0. We are hoping for a big and raucous crowd to help the boys in what should be a fantastic rematch. Hope to see you all there.
