Last night the Watervliet boys capped off their regular season with a Hall of Fame night victory over the visiting Lawton Blue Devils.
The Panthers started a little slow in the first couple minutes, but after tightening up on the defensive side, they took a 17-6 lead into the second quarter. Helping the Panthers with his energy in the first quarter was Bryant Kieft with a couple key steals and 6 quick points.
The Panthers continued their solid play in the second quarter, led by a pair of Garrett Matthews’ three-pointers. Watervliet went into halftime up 32-16.
After watching 10 Watervliet athletic legends get inducted into the Hall of Fame at halftime, the boys came out with an intense focus, going on an 8-0 run to start the second half. Seven of the ten boys scored in the third quarter led by Sheldon Tobar with 2 beautiful post moves to start the scoring. Watervliet pushed the lead to 49-23 going into the fourth.
After a back and forth last quarter, the final score ended at 64-43 Watervliet.
The win puts the Panthers overall regular season record at 11-9, and 9-6 in conference play.
For districts, the Panthers welcome the Brandywine Bobcats to Panther Gymnasium for a rematch of their January regular season matchup. The game is this Monday, March 5th at 7pm.
