Boys Varsity Cross Country · Boys Cross Places 4th at Regionals; 2 Individuals Qualify For State Meet

Watervliet High School 4th 89

As expected, the top four teams in the 16-team regional field easily outpaced the rest of field at the Regional Meet held in Centreville. Unfortunately for the Panthers, only the top three teams qualify for next week’s State Meet. Watervliet finished just 13 points behind 3rd-place Parchment. Two Panthers will be competing next week as both Gus Hinch and Ezra Troyer qualified for the State Meet. Gus captured 9th place overall with an impressive 17:44 while Ezra was 13th in 18-flat. This is Gus’ third consecutive year qualifying for State and his best Regional finish as he finished 11th in the previous two years. Ezra will be making his second trip to State improving upon his 14th place Regional finish last year. Kody Edmonds crossed the line in 18:22 to finish 19th. Trever Pelton and German Casiano rounded out the team scoring finishing 27th and 32nd, respectively. Matthew Hanks was 39th and Alex Isbrecht 49th in the field of 92 runners.
Despite missing out on the State Meet, the Panther boys had a great season capturing 4 invitational championships and placing runner-up 4 other times.
