Game Recap

We lost the first match against Bridgman. It took us a little while to get rolling. But the girls came out fierce in the next match against Grace Christian! In that context, we win the first game 25-21 but fell just short in the second game, listing 19-25. Serving up some magic in tonight’s matches and leading the panthers were Kenna Warren with 7 points and Lauren Lovell with 6. The rest of the team chipped in to serve up the remaining points. Great job tonight, ladies! You have been working really hard and it shows!

Game Recap

The Panthers traveled to Gobles tonight to face the Tigers. The Panthers took charge almost immediately, taking only four plays to score after receiving the opening kickoff. The defense, which was fantastic all night, forced a three and out on Gobles first offensive series. It took the offense just one play on their second drive as QB Zack Pickens hit WR Bryant Kieft for a 65 yard scoring strike. From there the route was on. The Panthers went to the locker room with a 38-0 lead and would coast home to a 54-6 win.

Defensively, the Panther D was certainly up to the challenge on the night, allowing only 110 total yards (65 of which came on the Tigers last drive of the game late in the 4th quarter).

Offensively, Pickens led the way again tonight. The Senior QB was nearly perfect through the air going 16/17 for 298 yards and 2 TD’s. Pickens led the team in rushing as well, toting it 9 times for 64 yards and 3 TD’s. Bryant Kieft and Garrett Matthews were his top targets on the night. Kieft grabbed 5 Pickens offerings for 109 yards and a TD, while Matthews snagged 5 of his own for 103 yards. Senior WR Ryan Chisek chipped in 3 catches for 47 yards as well. In all eight different Panther’s caught passes on the night. Dylan Lynch also had a nice night running the ball, trucking it 5 times for 55 yards and a TD.

The win completes a 4-0 non-division record for the Panthers who begin Division play as they host Kalamazoo United (4-0, 0-0) in a battle unbeaten’s next week at Panther Stadium. The big game will also be Homecoming 2017 for the Panthers. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. next Friday.

Game Recap

The Watervliet Panthers began their season with a 62-8 victory over host Coloma Comets. The Panthers took the opening kickoff and marched it down the field to take an early 8-0 lead but the comets answered right back with a score of their own to tie the game at 8. After that it was all Panthers putting up 54 unanswered points. Behind the running of Tommy Sando and the passing of Tyson Williams the Panthers offense was unstoppable but more impressing was the Panthers defense. After the only Coloma score, the Panthers defense was rock solid only giving up a couple first downs the rest of the game. Royce Daughtey led the way on defense with an endless number of quarterback sacks and tackle for losses. Next week will be the Panthers home opener against Martin. GO PANTHERS!!!
