The 8th grade boys basketball team win a close game against a tough Decatur Raider team 38-36 in the Bangor Viking Basketball Tournament on Monday night.

The Panthers press was the difference in the game that helped to create turnovers for the Panthers. Ryan Chisek made two clutch free throws with 20 seconds in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Panthers.

The Panthers will play an undefeated Bangor-White team which dominated Bridgman 38-12.

The Championship game will be played this Wednesday at 7:45 in Bangor. Come and support your Panthers to victory.

Panthers are now 10-1 on the season.

The Watervliet Varsity Wrestling team placed 2nd behind Decatur at the Eau Claire Invitational. Champions for the day were Reese Jones at 103, Brock Thumm at 135, and Weston DeHaven at 215. 2nd place finishers were Valentine Casiano at 119, Pat Lynch at 125, Jake Speck at 130, and David Curl at 189. Mason Arent placed 3rd at 160, and Zach Johnson at 130 and Dan Guzman at 152 won 4th place medals.

Lady Panthers pick up their win of the season by knocking off Marcellus 34-33. The Panthers defense was the difference lead by Kiersten Knight, Alissa Simmons and Kelsey Griffith. The Watervliet Panthers won their first game of the year defeating the Marcellus Wildcats. The Panthers struggled all night finding their rhythm until it mattered. Leading by as many as four in the fourth quarter, the Panthers fought back to win by two. The Panthers were lead in scoring by Luke Traver and Brian Alden who both had 18 points. The Panthers leaders on the boards were Luke Traver with 8 and Ashton Holdridge and RJ Rudel with 7.

The Watervliet JV Lady Panthers started slow, but turned it on the 2nd half to down Marcellus 55-11. Lexi Kieft led the way with a career-high 24 points. Logan Mizwicki chipped in 7 points, while Annessia Reyna and Kailee Cheek added 6 points each. Kieft made three 3-pointers and Reyna made two. Once again, the Lady Panthers played excellent defense, putting constant pressure on the ball and creating several turnovers, including numerous steals by Jade Miller. The Lady Panthers are now 4-0 this season and are back in action on Saturday, December 12th at 4 p.m. in the Watervliet Middle School Gym.

Marcellus put up a good fight in the first half, but in the end the domination on the boards and full court defense pushed the Panthers to their first victory of the season.

KP (Kevin Pantelleria) led the Panthers with 12 rebounds and 3 steals

Watervliet JV girls are now 3-0 on the season after beating the Lawrence Tigers 49-17. Shannon Fish led the way with 10 points, followed by Lexi Kieft with 7. Hannah Armstrong, Logan Mizwicki, and Karlee Liles all chipped in 6 points each. For the third straight game, every girl on the team scored at least one basket. The Lady Panthers played great defense and scored an impressive 23 points in the 4th quarter. Watervliet will host Marcellus on Thursday, December 12th, at 7:15 p.m.

Trent Boone and L.A. Smith leads the 8th grade boys basketball team in a one point victory over Rival Hartford Indians 28-27.

Boone lead all scores with 18 pts, L.A. had 16pts all in the paint including 6-8 from the free throw line. Dan Cluster 7pts, Tate Halamka 4pts, Jacob Thomas, Sheldon Tobar, Zack Pickens each had 2pts.

The Panthers will take their 8-1 record into the Bangor Viking tournament. The Panthers will face Bangor Red this Saturday December 14th at 1:45 in the Bangor Middle School gym.
