Sam Casiano led things off for the Panthers competing as an individual qualifier at the State cross country course on the grounds of Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan. This was Sam's second trip to the State Finals and ran an impressive 17:15. The girls team were the next to take to the course and are only the fourth Watervliet girls team to earn a trip to the State meet. All seven of the ladies proved that they belonged against the state's best competition by running some of their best race times. Daniella Romero was just three seconds off her best time with a 20:37 while Miranda Lowell was just 9 seconds off her best with a 21:44. Katelyn Brown posted a new PR of 22:16. Stephany Villarreal ran her second fastest time ever with 22:39. Alex Zuniga continued to push through a nagging calf injury to cross the line in 22:51. Payton Yeske's 23:06 was her third quickest race this season and Sophia Lechuga posted her second best time with 24:21. Overall, it was a great effort from a group of athletes who have dedicated themselves to getting better for many, many months.
