Watervliet Public Schools

The Watervliet Panthers entered the nightcap with momentum, jumping out to an early 8-2 lead against a tough Buchanan squad. However, Buchanan battled back throughout the game and edged the Panthers in dramatic fashion, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win an exciting contest. Watervliet’s offense remained hot, collecting 12 hits on the night. Kate Kostrzewa and Kendal Kiefer led the way with three hits each, while Emma Kirksey added two singles. Alexis Eberhard came through with a key RBI single, and Ava Trapp contributed a single and an RBI. Madison Eberhard also added a sacrifice bunt that drove in a run. Leila Liberto-Taylor came up big as she hit a three run Home Run. Sienna Bulat chipped in single. Kirksey took the loss in the circle despite a strong effort from the Panthers overall. Coach Golden praised the team’s performance and their ability to compete from start to finish. Watervliet will look to bounce back on Tuesday as they travel to face their arch-rivals in a SAC divisional matchup. The Panthers fall to 10-7 overall.
