Ava Trapp Puts On Strong Contact Performance As Watervliet Panther Softball team wins the season opener Over the Schoolcraft Eagles. Ava Trapp collected three hits in four at bats, as Panther’s-defeated Schoolcraft Varsity Eagles 11-4 on Wednesday at Watervliet. Trapp singled in the fifth inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the fourth inning. Schoolcraft Eagles got on the board in the first inning after Valerie Devries grounded out, scoring one run. Sienna Bulat singled down the left field line, which helped Watervliet to tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. A ground out by Karlee Welburn gave the Eagles the lead, 2-1, in the top of the second. Watervliet jumped into the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Kaylee Bartee doubled, scoring two runs, Liela Liberto-Taylor tripled, scoring one run, and Emma Kirksey doubled, scoring one run. Kirksey earned the win for the Panther's. The right-handed pitcher gave up eight hits and four runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out seven and walking one. Savannah Mozola took the loss for Schoolcraft. The pitcher went four and two-thirds innings, surrendering five runs (one earned) on eight hits, striking out two and walking two. Watervliet accumulated 10 hits in the game. Bartee and Trapp were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for the Panthers. Kirksey collected two hits for the Panthers in four at bats. Watervliet had patience at the plate, piling up nine walks for the game. Liberto-Taylor, Alexis Eberhard, Ava Thomas, and Bulat led the team with two free passes each. Watervliet turned one double play in the game. Leadoff hitter Leah Ostlund led the Eagles with four hits in four at bats. Welburn, Ostlund, and Devries each drove in one run for Schoolcraft. Watervliet played at home on Wednesday against Schoolcraft in game one of a doubleheader.
