Watervliet Public Schools

The Watervliet Panthers survived a second half rally, knocking off the visiting Bangor Vikings in the Division 3 Girls Basketball District Semifinals, 39-36. Watervliet jumped out of the gate taking a 13-5 lead into the second quarter. Daijahnae Hatcher scored 6 of her team high 11 in the first frame. The second half was back and forth seeing both teams tally nine points and the Panthers took a 22-14 lead into the break. The Vikings came out in the second half and outscored the Panthers 10-5 and eventually took the lead in the fourth. However the Panthers turned up the energy and got to the free throw line twelve times in the final frame and did just enough to walk away with the victory. In addition to Hatcher's 11, Moeko Crago finished with 7, Isabella Bultema 6, Miranda Lowell 4, Leila Liberto Taylor 3, Emma Owens 2, Kate Kostrzewa 2, Hailey Adams 2, and Aubrey Winnell 2. The Panthers will take on the Gobles Tigers on Friday night in the District Finals. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
