8th Grade vs Saugatuck Middle School (26 - 27) Loss in OT The Lady Panthers faced their toughest test of the season and struggled in the first quarter by falling behind 12-0. Early foul trouble and some bad turnovers allowed Saugatuck to take their commanding lead. After the first, the girls showed no quit. With Adams and Cruz in foul trouble, Amiah Apreza took over responsibility for guarding Saugatuck's lethal scorer. Once Apreza starting guarding her she only scored one more basket the entire game. The Panthers cut the lead to 16-11 at half and had all the momentum going into half time. The Panthers came out fired up and outscored Saugatuck in the third to take the lead of 19-18 at the end of the third. The fourth quarter was an offensive struggle on both ends and quality shots were hard to find. Apreza also led the Panthers with 3 fourth quarter points included a clutch late freethrow to keep the game tied. When the final buzzer rang it was all tied 24-24. The panthers took a quick overtime lead of 26-24, but could not find the bottom of the net one more time and a late bucket by Saugatuck gave them the victory. The girls fought to the very end and showed a lot of toughness tonight. Adams led the Panthers with 9, Apreza with 5, Ledesma with 4, Zyla with 4, Cruz with 2, and Pratt with 2.
