The Watervliet boys soccer team improved to 3-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the conference with a convincing 8-0 win at Constantine tonight. The game was called at the 47 minute mark due to the 8 goal lead rule. Even though the boys started real slow, they certainly picked it up when it mattered.
The first 10 minutes of the game seemed to last forever, nobody passing, making poor reads, not connecting and not talking. It seemed like it took the first ten minutes to get the blood flowing after a very long bus ride and a short time to warm up. The scoring started in the 11 minute and carried through the 39th.
In the first half, Nathan Isbrecht (2 goals and 2 assists), Brennan Bornas (1 goal and 1 assist), Brady Bornas (2 goals and 2 assists), Erick Perez Cruz (2 goals) and Andrew Fish (1 assist) all scored for a 7-0 halftime lead. Zach Hastings made 3 saves in the 1st half and Andrew Chisek made a key save from defense to stop a score from happening. All in all a very strong first half as our team eventually wore down a game Constantine team.
In the 2nd half, with a lot of the starters on the bench, Isaiah Brooks (freshman) scored his first ever varsity goal off an assist from Jesus Garcia at the 47th minute mark to end the game for the Panthers. Another strong defensive showing from Andrew C, Zeke Alvarado, Ryan Knapp, Austin Wilmoth and Drew Van Lente helped make a shutout possible for our team.
Next game, Wednesday at Coloma at 6pm. Time to play our rivals. Lets go PANTHERS….
