Saugatuck High School
Watervliet High School
The Watervliet Panthers lost a close game tonight vs. the Saugatuck Indians. The Panthers used a patient offensive attack to go up 9-8 at the end of the first quarter. From there the score kept going back and forth right up to the end. The Panthers went into halftime down by one with a score of 22-21 in favor of the Indians. The third quarter saw Saugatuck pull away and open up a 7 point lead going into the 4th quarter up 36-29. In the fourth quarter, the Panthers did a great job getting the ball inside to get easy shots and pulled back to take the lead up 4 at one point late in the game. The final seconds saw the Panthers up 1 with 8 seconds left and Saugatuck with possession. One of the Indians guards hit a contested 3pt shot to put Saugatuck up 2 with a final score of 48-46.
While this is the second game this season that the Panthers have lost by a buzzer-beating three pointer, the squad has shown great improvement and are moving in the right direction.
Watervliet put in a balanced offensive attack and were led in scoring by James Bell with 11, Trent Boone with 8, and LA Smith, Cameron Rendo, and Sheldon Tobar all chipped in 7 apiece. Solid defensive performances were put in by Ryan Chisek, Cameron Rendo, and LA Smith.
The Panthers do not take the court again until January 3rd against the South Haven Rams.
