Watervliet High School
Bloomingdale High School
The Watervliet Panthers lost a close first game to the Bloomingdale Cardinals tonight. The boys started out with great effort on the defensive side of the ball in the first quarter, ending with a 15-12 lead. In the second half, the Cardinals used a full court press to try to force turnovers against the Panthers. Watervliet did a good job finding the open man in the zones, and broke the press well to get layups which led to a 12 point Panther lead early in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals didn’t go away easily, and brought it back within 3 points with 1 minute remaining. Bloomingdale ended up with the last possession of the game, with the Panthers still up 1 point. The Panthers played great defense and ending up forcing a contested 3 pt. shot. The shot ended up going in as the final seconds ticked off the clock.
Big performances were turned in by Ryan Chisek who led the Panthers with 14 points. Trent Boone and James Bell also chipped in 9 and 7 points respectively.
The Panthers look to continue to improve as they invite the Lawrence Tigers to Panther Gymnasium this Friday. Tip-Off is set for 15 minutes after the Watervliet Lady Panthers game(6pm).
