Game Recap

The Watervliet Panthers middle school football team beat the Blue Devils of Lawton by a score of 40-22 at Lawton High School last night. After a lighting strike that delayed the opening game, the Panthers took the field for a 7pm start time that gave the boys a good feeling of what its going to be like in their future playing on Friday nights. They took full advantage of the opportunity. On a night where the running game was going to be critical the offense line of Sam Williams, Dylan Lawson, Eli Marshall, Sumner Robbins and Zack Stainbrook really stepped up, allowing the Panthers to rack up 311 yards rushing. Leading the team offensively was Don Smith throwing for 98 yards with an 18 yard touchdown pass to Evan Hutchins. Don also had 14 carries for 121 yards and 3 touchdowns. Carrying much of the Panthers load was lineman converted to running back Isaiah Yazel who could not be stopped in the second half. Yazel finished the game with 21 carries for 156 yards and 2 touchdowns. Leading the Panthers defensively was Yazel with 8 tackles, Lawson with 6 tackles, Hutchins with a fumble recovery, and Don Smith with an interception that sealed the win. This win improves the Middle School Panthers football team to 4-0 on the season. Next week the Panthers continue their rivalry with the Hartford Indians as we travel to take them on at their field. Game time is 5pm. GO PANTHERS!!!!
