The Panther Varsity football team travelled to Kalamazoo to face the Titans of Kalamazoo United this past Friday. While rain threatened, it turned out to be a beautiful night. The Titans struck first taking their opening drive down for a TD and a 7-0 lead. The visiting Panthers took control from there however, scoring 34 unanswered points. United made a late bid at a comeback, but the game was never really in doubt. The final score ended at 34-19 in favor of the Panthers.

Game Summary


The Panthers travelled to Kalamazoo this past Friday night to face the Titans of Kalamazoo United. The home team struck first taking their first drive down the field for a relatively easy score. However, the Panther defense responded shutting out the Titans for the better part of three straight quarters. The offense also took control scoring 34 unanswered points. United made a late bid at a comeback, but the game was never really in doubt, with the visiting Panthers winning 34-19.

QB Cameron Rendo had another fantastic game. Rendo was 19/36 for 262 yards and 3 TD passes. Rendo also added 125 yards rushing and two TD’s. The senior signal caller has already thrown for over 1200 yards and 16 TD’s through four games. Senior WR Tyler Brant continued his stellar pass-catching year grabbing 8 Rendo offerings for 108 yards and a TD.

Defensively, Zack Pickens, playing LB for the first time in his career led the team with 14 total tackles and a sack. Junior Sheldon Tobar added 5 tackles, 1 sack, and 5 QB hurries on the night. While Senior DB Devon Flowers had two interceptions.

Watervliet (3-1, 2-0) looks to stay unbeaten in Division play as they travel to Fennville (2-2, 0-2) Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
