Watervliet High School
Coloma High School
The Watervliet varsity football team travelled a few miles down Red Arrow Highway to face rival Coloma for the 104th time Friday night. While Coloma holds the overall edge in the series, the Panthers had won the last three coming into the game. It was clear early that the Panthers streak would continue. Senior QB Cameron Rendo hooked up with fellow senior Tyler Brant for a TD on the opening drive and the rout was on. Watervliet recovered the ensuing onside kick and another in the first quarter on their way to a 28-0 first quarter lead. Three more TD’s early in the second quarter gave the Visitors a dominating 52-0 lead. Coloma did get on the board twice late in he second quarter to cut the halftime deficit to 52-14. With the running clock in effect in the second half the Panthers added two more scores for a final score of 66-26.
Rendo, who did not play in the second half, was 12/17 for 347 yards and 5 TD’s. Lamarrius Smith led the receiving corps with 2 catches for 114 yards and a TD, while Brant continued his fantastic play grabbing four Rendo offerings for 94 yards and 2 TD’s. RB Zack Pickens continued to play well rushing 9 times for 88 yards and catching three passes for 65 more. Junior LB Ryan Chisek played very well defensively.
The Panthers (2-1, 1-0) stay on the road to face Kalamazoo United (2-1, 1-0) in an important divisional game next Friday. Kickoff is set for 7:00.
