Comstock High School
Watervliet High School
The Comstock Colts loaded their back line with six players in an attempt to contain the multiple runs into the attacking third by the Panthers. The Panthers had a number of shots fall just short of beating the talented keeper of Comstock. With the score tied 0-0 at half-time both teams made tactical adjustments and came out strong. Two minutes into the second half a collision occurred between members of both squads, the Comstock player received a yellow card for her foul while the Panther player received a red card for retaliation. The red card resulted in the Panthers playing down a player (10v11) for all but two minutes of the second half.
Despite playing down a player the Panthers earned a penalty kick mid-way through the second half, however the Colts keeper was able to make a brilliant save. With the game still tied at 0-0 at the end of regulation the teams would go into a penalty shootout.
Freshman Victoria Smith made the 1st attempt for the Panthers as well as saving the Colts first two PK attempts to give them a 1-0 lead in the best of 5 shootout. Freshman Emma Armstrong scored the second PK of the game giving the Panthers a 2-0 lead. However the Colts made their final three PK attempts to give the Colts a 3-2 win on PK’s.
