Meet Recap

The girls cross country made school history on Saturday as they brought home the first-ever girls cross country regional championship. In a field of 17 teams and a course that challenges each runner physically and mentally, the Panthers proved that they were the cream of the crop as they outdistanced second-place Delton Kellogg by 22 points. The terrific trio of Taylor Shafer, Gabby Tavolacci, and Allie Pazera did what they have done all season and were among the first ones to cross the finish line. Shafer outsprinted Hartford’s top runner to grab second-place overall in the field of 89 runners. Tavolacci came across 9 seconds later to finish 4th while Pazera grabbed the next spot making it three Panthers in the top 5. The rest of the ladies slammed the door on the rest of the teams by running their most focused races of the year. Brittney Johnson had her best race of the season placing 21st. Bailey Evans wrapped up the Panther scoring with a 37th place finish. Martha Casiano showed her toughness as she pushed herself throughout the race while fighting a fever to finish in 41st place. Melissa Swanson was just one second behind Martha in 42nd place.
