The Panther girls captured first place at the eleven-team Red Bud Invitational by outdueling a tough Marian team from Indiana. Team depth proved to be the key as Marian held a two-point advantage through each team’s first four finishers but Watervliet put their remaining three varsity runners in front of Marian’s fifth runner. Gabby Tavolacci won her third straight individual championship sneaking in just under the 21-minute mark with a 20:59. Brittney Johnson ran her fastest race of the season to get 4th with Martha Casiano not far behind in 5th place with her best time of the season as well. The season bests continued with Darbie Jones who crossed the line in 14th place, Bailey Evans in 16th place, and Kaela Morlock in 18th place. Melissa Swanson rounded out the varsity finishers getting 26th place and lowering her time by 1:41. Alyssa Hobson posted a new PR by improving 47 seconds to finish in 26th place in the 74-runner field.
