Game Recap
The Watervliet girls cross team continued to make huge gains as they turned in their best performance of the season at the Bangor Invitational. Being the smallest school in a field of 13 schools and one of only two Class C schools in the race, the Panther girls knew they would have to rise to the occasion to prove that they belonged in such a tough field. The Lady Panthers took many by surprise by finishing third behind Cadillac and Hastings. Gabby Tavolacci outkicked two others to move from 4th to 2nd in the last 150 meters and finished with a 20:40. After that it was up to the #2 thru #5 runners to get their pack in as soon as possible. This was accomplished with all of them posting times in the 22’s. Brittney Johnson finished in 19th, Darbie Jones 24th, Martha Casiano 25th, and Mary Gelder 26th. Kayle Baumeister and Kaela Morlock, the team’s 6th and 7th runners, helped push other team’s scores higher by placing ahead of many of the other teams’ top 5 as they ran seasonal best times.
