Game Recap
The Panther runners kept their perfect season intact as they won the 13-team Bangor Invitational with a score of 47 which placed them safely ahead of second-place Hastings who had 74 points. Being only one of two Class C schools in a field with 11 Class B schools, the Panthers were eager to show that it’s speed and not size that matters. The tight grouping of Watervliet runners paid great dividends again with them placing 3 in the top 10 and 6 in the top 17. Brendan Daly finished 4th in 17:22, a resurgent Brock Thumm was close behind in 5th in 17:26. Valentin Casiano grabbed 10th in 17:41 with Michael Foote following him in seven seconds later for 12th place. Reese Jones and T.J Hoffman battled each other to 16th and 17th places with 18:03 and 18:04 respectively. More evidence of the Panthers’ depth was to be found in the Reserve Race as they put five runners in the top nine. Benny Loshbough ran a new PR and pulled away during the last mile to take the victory in 19:04. Nick Brant and Brent Simmons also ran new PRs for third and fifth place finishes. Casey Klimkiewicz and Brody Roland finished back to back in 8th and 9th. The Panther boys now look forward to next Saturday’s Berrien County meet in which they will share the course with the #1 ranked in Division 2 St. Joseph.
