The Watervliet Cross Country teams opened up the regular season with a clean sweep at the Bridgman Invitational. The Girls team started things off right by taking first place in the field of 12 teams. Watervliet’s 40 points easily outdistanced the second place team from LMC who had 87 points. Gabby Tavolacci led the way with a 3rd place finish, setting up the pack of Darbie Jones, Martha Casiano, and Bailey Evans to put the meet out of reach with their 7-8-9 finish. Mary Gelder rounded out the Panther scoring with her 13th place finish in a field of 77 racers.The Watervliet Boys defended their Bridgman Invitational crown scoring only 25 points to runner-up Bridgman’s 76. Team strength proved to be the key as 10 Panthers finished in the top 26 in the 12-team race. All five scoring runners were in the top 8 with Michael Foote in 2nd, Valentin Casiano 3rd, Brock Thumm 5th, T.J. Hoffman 7th, and Brendan Daly 8th.
