Game Recap

The Lawton Blue Devils visited Panther Stadium tonight to kickoff the 2017 campaign. The visitors were not shown much hospitality. The Panther offense was almost unstoppable in the first half scoring on seven of eight possessions. The lone possession they did not score on was due to time running out in the half. The defense was just as impressive, allowing only three first downs in the first half. After a dominating first half the Panthers led 42-0.

With the running clock moving things along in the second half the scoring slowed down with each team scoring one TD leaving the final score 50-7 in favor of the home team.

Offensively, the Panthers were led by Senior QB Zack Pickens. In his first Varsity start Pickens was nearly flawless. His final numbers were 13/17 passing for 283 yards and three TD passes, along with 12 carries for 147 yards and another TD on the ground. Junior Garrett Matthews led the receiving corps with 3 catches for 139 yards and two TD’s.

On the defensive side there were many standouts. ILB’s Ryan Chisek and Anthony Wade were stout, while OLB Bryant Kieft was also tough. Blake Kinzler and Eric Kehrer were standouts on the D-line. The secondary played well with three interceptions on the night (Trent Boone, Garrett Matthews, and Jakob Aldrich).

The Panthers (1-0, 0-0) take to the road next week as they travel to Buchanan (0-1) to face the Bucks on THURSDAY. Game time is set for 7:00.
