Game Recap

The Panther football team hosted their final home game of the regular season tonight as the Decatur Raiders came calling to Panther Stadium.

The home team jumped out to a 20-6 first quarter lead and while Decatur kept it relatively close through three quarters, the Panthers took over in the 4th in route to a 48-24 win. The Panthers doubled the Raiders on the scoreboard and in yards 472-233.

Offensively, Cameron Rendo threw for 235 yards and 3 TD’s. Sophomore Garrett Matthews led the way with 6 catches for 103 yards, while Trent Boone was a big play man grabbing 3 passes for 94 yards and a TD. Bryant Kieft led the rushing attack with 70 yards and a TD on 8 punishing carries.

Defensively Kieft was also a standout from his defensive end spot, while Junior LB Dylan Lynch also played very well.

The win locked in the 6th straight playoff berth for Watervliet and 7 out of the last 8. The Panthers (6-2, 4-1) will close out the regular season with a visit to Bangor (0-8) next Friday. Kickoff is set for 7:00.
