Meet Recap

The Watervliet guys raced against the entire county at Bertrand Park at what turned out to be a very wet and muddy Berrien County Meet. The Panthers finished third out of 13 teams with only St. Joseph and Bridgman ahead of them. This was the sixth straight season the boys have placed in the top three in the county. Going into the meet, the team knew that this year would be one of the more competitive county meets as spots 2 through 6 were completely up for grabs based on performances thus far this season. Being down one of its regular top 3 runners, the Panther runners knew they would have to step it up and they responded. Jobe Kerr continued his great senior season finishing 4th overall with a season-best 17:07. Nick Swanson led a host of Panthers that finished in the 19s setting a new PR with a 19:09 for 27th place. Right behind him, Klayton Marshall was 28th in 19:11 and only 2 seconds back from Klayton was Brent Simmons in 19:13 for 29th place. Now the team needed to close out its scoring with a strong fifth-man finish. Haydon Richards came through as he ran his best race of the year to finish 37th in 19:36. Austin Roberts showed great improvement crossing the line just 8 seconds behind Haydon for 39th place. Gus Hinch made it one more Panther under 20 minutes as he notched a 19:49. Also of note, Alex Isbrecht posted a new PR of 20:38 improving his previous best by 10 seconds
